It’s all in the details with the phenomenal Dolce Gabanna – one of my all-time powerhouse favourites (my other is Valentino) Design duo’s, Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce, continue to exude that enticing, untouchable opulence adored by all.
Romance is undoubtedly prominent in every D&G campaign and runway show, just with differing levels of intensity, depending on themes and inspirational motives. I mean, if I had to choose one word to describe D&G it would indeed be romantic – it’s inevitable. Romance is irresistibly consistent, you can’t help but feel it through the incredibly detailed designs. Dolce & Gabbana embodies the traditional romance of Italian heritage design that for me is like no other when it comes to authenticity.
This time, SS16 ‘Italia is Love’ took us on a delightful trip to their beloved native land Italy, where you can tell pride loomed. From classic black lace bustier dresses, and tailored suits adorned with embroidered fruit appliqué and sequined florals, to floaty bright two-pieces embellished with Italian landmarks and playful pom-poms. Artistic brushstrokes, multicoloured maiolica prints, polka dots and crisp stripes, intricate brocade and beautiful tulle – the collection is a visual dream.
Decadent detailing such as hand-painted heels and modernised historical patterns, makes Dolce and Gabbana’s sartorial ode to Italy even more authentic. They truly consider every detail imaginable and absorb every ounce of Italian style with passionate twists, which in my opinion, allows consumers to soak up and admire their passion too.
I thought it was kinda cute that models posed for selfies, to then be shown in real-time just like you would if you were actually on holiday. It was as though they were tourists appreciating their surroundings, taking pictures whilst wandering past fruit and flower stalls in the streets of Italy. Have you ever seen tourists so, chic? No filter needed of course.
My absolute favourite few looks have to be the embellished floral tulle skirt dress, the carretto embellished bra top and skirt, the printed poplin intaglio dress and the flower jacquard double breasted jacket and cropped pant suit. Dreamy. Oh, and those beautifully detailed accessories. When it comes to accessories, no one compares to Dolce. I’m really wishing I had those pretty lemon drop earrings paired with the lemon embellished crown hairpiece, and patisserie themed box bag for summer. Too cute!
Dolce and Gabbana captured the perfect holiday romance, and Italy is definitely on my to-go-to list. That’s Amore!
